The Categories section allows you to create and organise the financial category tree in a structured way. You can create, edit, and assign categories for each company in your organisation using a visual matrix.
Create a new category
Add custom categories to classify transactions and forecasts. New categories are added to the root level of the tree. Later, you can reorganise them or nest them within others.
- Access the Categories section from the side navigation menu: Settings/Group.
- Click the Add category button located at the bottom of the category tree.
- Enter the name of the new category in the text field of the pop-up dialogue.
- Confirm the creation and click Save in the header to apply the changes.
Assign categories to companies
Use the permissions matrix to control which categories are available for each company. Each column represents a company, and the tick boxes in the table allow you to enable or disable categories individually.
- Locate the category you wish to assign in the category tree on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Tick the corresponding box in the column of the company where you want to activate that category.
- If you wish to deactivate a category, untick the corresponding box (transactions will move to "Uncategorised").
- Click Save and confirm the changes in the confirmation dialogue.
Rename or delete categories
You can modify the name of any existing category or delete it if it is no longer needed. Bear in mind that deleting a category will affect categorised transactions and may alter automations that use the "Categorise" action.
- Click on the three-dots button of the category where you wish to modify to open the context menu.
- Select Rename to change the name or Delete to remove the category.
- If deleting, read the warning message carefully regarding the impact on transactions and automations.
- Confirm the action and click Save to apply the changes permanently.
Organise categories into groups
It is possible to create hierarchical structures by nesting categories within others. When you add a new category (or several) to an existing category, the latter automatically becomes a "group" which cannot be assigned directly to transactions or forecasts. The maximum nesting limit is 5 levels.
- Click on the three-dots button of the category where you wish to add a subcategory.
- Select the Add category within option from the context menu.
- Enter the name of the new subcategory in the pop-up dialogue.
- Confirm and click Save to apply the new hierarchical structure.
