The Categories settings section allows you to create and organize the financial category tree in a structured way. You can create, edit, and assign categories for each company in your organization using a visual matrix.
Create a new category
Add custom categories to later classify transactions and forecasts. New categories are created at the first level of the tree. Later, you can reorganize them or nest them within others.
- Go to the Categories section from the side navigation menu: Settings > Group.
- Click the Add category button located in the bottom left corner of the categories/companies matrix.
- Enter the name of the new category in the text field of the pop-up dialog.
- Confirm the creation and click Save in the header to apply the changes.
Link categories to companies
Use the permissions matrix to control which categories are available in each company. Each column represents a company, and the checkboxes in the table allow you to link or unlink categories individually.
- Locate the category you want to link in the category tree located on the left side of the screen.
- Check the corresponding box in the company column where you want to link that category.
- If you want to unlink a category, uncheck the corresponding box (transactions will then be classified as "Uncategorized").
- Click Save and confirm the changes in the confirmation dialog.
Rename or delete categories
You can modify the name of any existing category or delete it if you no longer need it. Keep in mind that deleting a category will affect categorized transactions and may alter automations that use the "Categorize" action.
- Click the three-dot button of the category you want to modify to open the context menu.
- Select Rename to change the name or Delete to remove the category.
- If you delete it, carefully read the warning message about the impact on transactions and automations.
- Confirm the action and click Save to apply the changes permanently.
Organize categories into groups
It is possible to create hierarchical structures by nesting categories within others. When you add a new category (or several) to an existing category, it automatically becomes a "group" that cannot be assigned directly to transactions or forecasts. The maximum nesting limit is 5 levels.
- Click the three-dot button of the category where you want to add a subcategory.
- Select the Add category inside option in the context menu.
- Enter the name of the new subcategory in the pop-up dialog.
- Confirm and click Save to apply the new hierarchical structure.
